UNEXPECTED DEFECTION FROM THE LYONS CABINET

Sydney, Friday. The Daily Telegraph Canberra correspondent reporls that the Minister of Commerce, Mr. C. A. Hawker, resigned from the Lyons Cabinet early this mornlng. For some time Mr. Hawker has had differenees with his colleagues on the exchange question. He later voted against the Government on an amendment to the Financial Emergency Bill. The Sydney Morning Herald Canberra representative says Mr. Hawker announced that he had resigned owing to a disagreemeni 011 the question of the further reduetion of allowances to Ministers. He emphasised that there had been no dlsagreement on any matter relating to policy.
