Waikato Hunt Races. With the Rotorua Point-to-Point over, all eyes will be focussea on the Waikato Hunt's races on Labour Day. Owners and trainers are referred to another column where it will he found that the closing date of nominations is September 30. It is also noted that the order of racing has been changed, the Hunters' Hurdl'es being run second and* the Bardowie Handicap third. Visiting Basketball Teams. A team of Matamata representative basketball players will visit Rotorua to-day to try conclusions with the local association's representatives and on Wednesday the Opotiki basketballers will return the visit made by Rotorua reeently. Both games should he well worth watching. The visitors will be suitably entertained after their matehes. An unusual Visitor. An unsual visitor to Rotorua in the forrn of a large green moth with goldsn markings on the wings was captured in the Blue Baths by the custodian yesterday morning. It is a really magnificent speeimen, but so far no one has succeeded in identifying the species. The spread of its wings is fully six inches and the colouring is exceptionally fine. Want Baths Shifted. The matter of the removal of .the baths at Taupo to a site in the Domain was discussed when brouglit up by the chairman at the last meeting of the Taupo Road Board, and it was dacided to issue a special invitation to the General Manager of the Tourist Department (Mr. G. W. Clinkard) to i visit Taupo, when the matter can be discussed on the spot. Taupo residents are confident that when this has been done there will he no obstacle in the way of the fulfilment of their wishes. Outhreak of Fire The Rotorua Fire Brigade received a call to a chimney fire at the rear of an unoccupied shop in Tutanekai Street at 7.20 o'clock last evening and quickly had the outbreak under eontrol. The shop, which has been leased to the Farmers' Trading Company, is under course of alteration, and apparently when the worlr.men lighted some rubbish in a fireplace, the chimney caught alight. The fire was confincd to the chimney and no damage was done to the shop or building. Death of Wi Ratu. An inquest concerning the death of Wi Ratu, a native workman killed by a tree on Wednesday afternoon, was held by Mr. S. L. Paterson, S.M., at Mourea yesterday. After hearing the evidence of the natives who found | Ratu lying dead, a verdict was re- j turned to the effect that deceased was i accidently killed at Mangaheipua hnsh i through the tree which he was felling splitting and striking him on the head and body. Hsint Season End Tho 1931-32 season's hunting programme will be brought to a close today when membei's of the Rotorua j and Bay of Plenty Hunt Club will cast i off on Mr. H. C. Hardcastle's pro- j perty, Old Taupo Road, at 1 p.m. I It is anticipated that a large number j of followers and members will attend. ! After hunting the properties of Mes- ! srs. Ilardcastle, Ford, Wrigley and j other adiacent lxoldings, the meet j wrill conclude with an afternoon tea j halt at the master's (Dr. Bertram's) j residence, "The Mount." Dr. and ! Mrs. Bertram will also be pleased to j welcome members of the Racing Club j at the afternoon tea function which j will take place at 4.15 p.m. Exhibition, of Model Csty An, unusual exhibition is on view j at the Lyric Theatre at the present J time, the public being afforded an ! opportunity of seeing an exhibition ! which has taken 26 years of ingenuity and slcill to perfect. It is a dis- j play of the model city comprising 1 Gympie Gold Mine, Palais de Danse, j sawmill, public park, alluvial gold digging, early convict days of New J South Wales and saw bench. The , exhibition is being shown in New ; Zealand for the first time and is both j interesting and educational to young j and old. Consistent Golf Two good cards showing consistent golf were returned by S. E. Carr, of the Rotorua Golf Club, reeently. On September 11 his eard read: — Out: 4, 4, 4, 4, 5, 3, 4, 4, 4 (36); in: 5, 4, 5, 5, 2, 3, 3, 3, 4 (34); ] total, 70. A weelc later he did another seventy, made np as follows: — Out: 3, 4, 4, 5, 4, 3, 5, 4, 3 (35); in- 5, 5, 4, 4, 3, 3, 4, 3, 4 (35). With his handicap of four, Carr thus returned two sixty-sixes nett. Visiting Football Team The management of the Peerless Hall -Old Time Dance has been notified' by the Rugby Union of the ac- ' eeptance of their invitation to all the ■; visiting teams, Waipa especially, to attend the usual Saturday dance this evening. A good programme has been arranged and as there will be the usual Monte Carlos, etc., and the music supplied by TattersalTs Band, a good time is assured*
