FAT SHEEP PRICES LOWER, YARDING HEAVY PIGS IN DEMAND

Hamilton, Wednesday, The Farmers' Co-operative Auctioneering Company, Limited, report: At Frankton sale to-day we had an exceptionally heavy yarding of sheep. Prime quality wethers re- j mained unchanged, but other weth- | ers were hardly up to late quotations. There was a heavy entry of fat ewes and these showed a considerable drop on late rates, prices easing to the extent of 2s per head. Hoggets were firm at late rates. There was a smaller yarding of spring lambs with prices at late rates. Cattle: A heavy entry of ox beef including many unfinished sorts. Prime quality remained unchanged with second quality considerably easier. Cow beef of an inferior quality came forward in large numbers and a decided drop on late rates was recorded. Store cattle were penned in good i numbers and changed hands at better than late rates. Pigs: A fair yarding, which met with a rising market. Quotations : — Sheep :— -Heavy .fat wethers, 14s to 14s 6d; medium fat wethers, 12s 6d to 13s; shorn fat wethers, 11s 6d to 12s; unfinished wethers, 10s; heavy fat ewes, 10s to 10s 9d; medium fat ewes, 8s to 9s 2d; medium, 6s 6d to 7s 6d; fat hoggets, 11s 3d to 12s; lighter, 10s 4d to 10s 9d; spring lambs, 14s to 14s 5d; lighter, 12s to 13s 3d. Cattle.: — Heavy fat steers, £4 12s 6d to £7 17s 6d; medium, £6 17s 6d to £7 9s; lighter fat steers, £5 17s 6d to £6 5s; unfinished, £4 12s 6d to £5 9s; forward conditioned steers, £4 3s to £4 9s; 2-year P.A. steers, £2; ; 2-year Hereford heifers, empty, £2; Hereford cows, r.w. bull, 32s 6d to 37s 6d; medium fat cows, £4 6s to £4 18s; medium fat heifers, £4 5s to £4 17s; lighter fat heifers, £3 to £3 12s 6d; lighter fat cows, £3 12s to £4; killable cows, £2 12s 6d to £3; forward conditioned cows, £2 to £2 15s; store cows, 25s to 32s 6d; boner cows, 8s to 20s.
