Wellington, Wednesday. With the discovery in the Su^reme Coui't that two witnesses had been coached by his client, eounsel for Mrs Elizabeth McSperrin, who claimed damages for assault from P'olice Constable Anson, withdrew immediately from the case. Mr. Justice O'stler later dismissed the women's story as "ridiculous in itself." He added that were she not *a sick woman he would have instructed the police to proceed against her for interfering with witnesses, Trouble arose about a missing motor-car, and in February Constable Anson called at plaintiff 's house for her f oster son, who was wanted to . give evidence in Court.. Plaintiff refused to- allow the boy to go until he dressed, and she alleged that the constable pushed past her, bumping her elbow and breast. In reply to His Honour plaintiff said : the bruise on the breast was about the size of half-a-crawn. "I showed it to the Commissioner of Police and tears carae into his , ;eyes," • she said> His Honour: What, Commissioner Wohlmann? Plaintiff i Yes. Later in the case it transpired' that one of the witnesses had. had, his evidence wriiten out by plaintiff.,. and another pleaded that he had left his .evidence at home. Constable Anson gave evidence, ; amid repeated inter jections by plaintiff that he was telling "terrible, lies." ■
