MOTOR LORRY STOPS ON LI.P OF GAPING PIOLE

Carterton, Tuesday. The northern approach to the Waioline Bridge, on the. Carterton-Grey-own highway, collapsed at 11 o'clock night, leaving a gaping hole 29 feet square and 15 feet deep. Just prior to the collapse a heav-l;.'--.'.;den motor lorry crossed the Uiidge. Another lorry had a narrow K-'eape, pulling up inches from the hop, and struek the side of the bridge. The water in the recent floods goug- ■■•(} under the bridge, undermining- the o-.d and leaving only a bitumen crust. Temporary repair work is proceedng rapidly.
