CONDITION OF CRANKPINS.
Big-end bearing adjustments cannot be made properly without first determining the condition of the crank-pins, which are susceptible to uneven wear. When amateurs undertake this work it often happens that what looks like a perfect job of bearing tightening is most disillusioning when the engine is started, largely because the crank pin is worn out of round. The condition of this part should he determined hef ore -any adjustment is made, particularly in the case of an o-ld car. If grinding of the pins is necessary, it is a fairly simple job with the up-to-date faeilities at the average good repair shop.
