MAHATMA REFUSES TO RENOUNCE HIS VOW

Rec. Sept. 19. Calcutta, Sept. 18. Prominent Hindus made further efforts to persuade Mx*. Gandhi to abandon his starvation project, Gandhi replying to appeals from Sir Tej Bahadur Sapur, the Hindu Liberal leader, said "I could not alter my decision which was taken in God's name, but if 'God wills, my body will hold against the fast long enough for settlement." It is rumoured that Gandhi is to become the guest of a well-known local Indian woman sympathiser. Leading Bombay Hindus have called' on the British PJremier and the Hindus of the depressed classes to avert the national crisis. A campaign has been started for the observation of a fast throughout India on Tuesday.
