FOR SEXUAL CRIME VICTORIAN CRIMINAL TO PAY THE DEATH PENALTY OFFENCE AGAINST CHILD

Rec. Sept. 14, 8.30 p.m. Melbourne. Sep. 14. The State Executive decided today that the death sentence should be carried out on David Bennett, aged - 59 years, who was convicted of a capital offence against a four-year-old girl at Carlton. He. will be harrged on September 26. The last execution for a similai' erime toolc place 41 years ago. Bennett, however, had previously been convicted in Western Australia of a sexual erime, when he received a whipping and a life sentence, but obtained a release after a portion of the sentence was served. Ho was later convicted of robbery under arms in company with Angus Murray, and received 15 years' imprisonment. Murray was executed. Murray was executed in 1924 for I shooting and killing a bank manager. | This was the last execution in Melj bourne. It is a coincidence that Ben1 nett will now share that fate.
