Cheap Wool.
The price of wool has been so low that at least one Gisborne grower has had to pay out money to have some of it taken off his hands, Recently, five bales of slipe wool were sent Home on his hehalf. He agreed that it was seedy, but he believed that [ even at the ruling rates it was worth double the amount he received. It ■ was sold at 21d per lb, hut the costs i amounted to nearly twice that, and i he found himself in the position of | having to pay out nearly £4 a bale j to meet that portion of the expense 1 that the gross return did not cover. | The cost amounted to 4§d lb, includ- ; ing 22d for slipping and 2d for ship- ; ping and selling. He believed he would i have heen better off had he offered this wool at one of the local oddment saies.
