DECISION TO PROCEED WITH NEW FREEZING WORKS AT WAIROA Gisborne, Tuesday. The decision to re-erect the freezing works which were destroyed by fire following the earthquake last year has put new heart into the people of Wairoa, which, although it has receive d little publicity, was one of the worst sufferers in the upheaval. An interesting feature of the position is tho report that the eompany is being financed by the Bank of New South Wales. No time is being lost in inaugurating the work, which is expected to be completed in about three months. Not only will the decision practically- mean the solution of the. local unemployment problem, but it will also have the effect of removing serious anxiety from the minds of settlers, who, in the absence of the works and since tho closing of the railway to Putorino, have had to pay heavily to have their stock transported to Hawlce's Bay. It has been stated that half the receipts from the saies of cattle are absorbed in the expenses of getting the cattle to market.
