Masterton, Monday. The flood waters in the lower valley are gradually receding, but it is not expected that some properties will be clear for several weeks. Others will be back at normal in a much shorter time. "The most serious phase of the flood at the moment," said Mr. A. D. McLeod, M.P., "is the damage to the river protection work at Tawaha and Ahiaruhe'." These suffered severely, and upon Mr. McLeod's representations the Minister of Lands, the Hon. E'. A. Ransom,- agreed to an immediate inspection being carried out.
