EFFICIENT BRAKES

IMPROVEMENT ON MODERN CAR | Although all modern cars nowadays i are equipped with most effieient brakes ; as compared urith cars of 20 years ! ago, how many drivers realise that i under average road conditions they j can drive long distances without using J the brakes at all, except for an emer- ! gencyi without risk to themselve,s , or other road users. To keep up an j average speed of, say, 30 miles an hour on a journey with a present-day car, it is not necessary to exceed much over 35 m.p.h. at any time, whereas in the old days to average 30 m.p.h. meant that the maximum speed had to be far greater, consequently, frequent application of brakes was necessary in order to negotiate, with safety, bends and sharp turns, etc., of the road, nesulting in severe wear, not only of the brakes, but of the ehassis and transmission generally. With the effieient modern car of to-day, a little timely deceleration will enable braking to be greatly minimised, or dispensed with' entirely on occasions with considerable saving in wear and tear.
