The Government meteorologist issued the following weather report and forecast last night: — General situation: The first of a fresh series of westerly depressions has been crossing the Dominion today Forecast: Winds north -westerly to south-westerly, but Iater tending more northeriy, moderate to strong generally and Teaching gale force at times Iin places about and south of Cook Strait. Weather: For the most part fair in the eastern district, otherwise change- ■ able and at times showery, especially Fn western and southern districts of the South Island; temperatures moderate. Following are the barometer, maximum and minimum thermometer, sunshine, and rainfall readings recorded at the Government Observation Station by the Rotorua Tourist Depart- | ment for the 24 hours ended at 9.30 a.m. yesterday. Barometer 30.320ins. Thermometer (max.) 58.4deg. Thermometer (mi'n.) 35.0deg. Thermometer (min. on grass) 29.3deg. Rainfall Nil Bright Sunshine 9.0hrs.
