OPOTIKI VICTORIOUS In a match for the Hurunui- Apanui Shield on Saturday, Opotiki (holders) had a run-away victory over Galatea by 33 (nine tries, three of which were converted) to 5 (a converted try) . Opotiki were all over their opponents for the majority of the game. The winners dominated the scrums and line outs and their backs scored almost at will, in spite of stubborn defence by Galatea. Galatea's only try was the result of a strong forward rush, Willcinson scoring* and converting his own try. The half -time score was Opotiki 17, Galatea nil. For Opotiki, Jones (2), Hawkins (2), Mansell, Black, Paul, Brown and Kelly scored. Sidney converting two and Black one. The final score was: — Opotiki 33 Galatea • 5 Mclntosh Shield In a junior match for the Mclntosh Shield, Tauranga Athletic had a narrow win over Opotiki Maoris, after a very hard-fought contest by six points to five. Opotiki had the better of the first half and at half-time led 5 — 3. A penalty to Tauranga in the second half gave them the victory. Mokomoko scored a try for Opotiki, which Hunia converted. McPherson scored an unconverted try for the winners. The final score was, Tauranga 6, Opotiki 5.
