Auckland, Sunday. The death occurred this morning of B. H. Palmer, the New Zealand All Black forward, who sustained severe head injuries when playing for Otahuhu against University yesterday. The former was charging down toward an opponent with the ball, and dived at the latter just as he kicked he ball. Palmer struck his opponent's hip. It was at once seen that Palmer ,vas in a serious condition. He was taken to the hospital, but lied Avithout regaining consciousness. An examination at the hospital failed to reveal any sign of a knock or bruise on his head, and it is uriderstood that the cause of death was internal haemorrhage, due to hrealc'ng a blood vessel. Palmer was a member of the Ponsonby senior team from 1925-31. This year he had been. playing for Otahuhu on account of change of residence. He had represented Auckland evei-y year since 1925. He ' played for the North Island in 1928 and 1932, and represented New Zealand 'u all three Tests against New South Wales in 1928. He was a member of the team touring Australia in 1929 in d again this yeai*, when he earned he reputation of being one of the 'inest hookers the Dominion has ever iC-nt across to Australia. Deceased was 28 years of age and 'esided with his mother at Otahuhu. He was an exeeedingly popular figure on the playing fields of Auckland and had been selected to play igainst Taranaki at Edexx Park next Saturday. V. C. Butler, a University player .vas also taken to hospital suffering from concussion sustained in the closing stages of the same game, but he .'s out of danger to-day. The game was particularly clean xnd bright. University gained the victory with two tries scored in as many minutes at the end of the game.
