Stratford, Thursday. Manawhenua beat Taranaki by 18 to 14, after a good game played on a greasy field. Taranaki was superior throughout the opening spell, but in ; both the backs and forv/ards, Manav/henua came to light with a vastly mproved showing throughout the second spell. Manawhenua owed their victory : frincipally to their dashing forwards. : In the final spell, the visitors handl- " ed better and several combined" efforts resulted. The Taranaki team was not up to the expected standard. The game was a hard even one.
