WEDNESDAY COMPETITION
Tui y. Konini. This game was evenly contested from the start, and the issue was always in doubt until the final whistle, when Tui rau out winners by 14 goals to 12. Some good movements were witnessed, and although the standard of baslcetball was not particuarly high the game was exciting. Y. Butler and J, Young were the best of Tui's forwards, while T. Johnson (Konini) showed to advantage in intercepting the ball from her opponents. Waratah v. Ngaio. Ngaio ran Waratah more closely than was expected. The game was played at an extremely fast pace, and a good exhibition of basketball was witnessed. The passing and catching of both teams was excellent. The closing stages of the game were exciting and had the game lasted a few minutes longer Ngaio's score would have been much higher. B. Chambers played a good defensive game for Waratah, while J. Winslade scored well for Ngaio. Score: Waratah, 21; Ngaio, 16. Kowhai v. Mokoia. Once again only the usual four keen Mokoia players turned up. Even the captain on this occasion being absent. This is a poor example for the leader to set to the other players. Kowhai was credited with the win. On account of High School withdrawing from this competition, Tui and Waratah played their final games last week. Konini, Kowhai, Mokoia and Ngaio conclude their matches next week. The points list showing the winners of this competition will be published next Friday. Team Against Opotiki. The following team, consisting of players from the Wednesday competion, will play Opotiki: — Goalers, J. Winslade, V. Hale (Ngaio), J. Allen (Konini); centres, E. Clarke, M. Ford (Ngaio), F. Bates (Konini); defenee, T. Johnson (Konini), I. Anderson (Tui), 0. Edwards.
