A CHILD'S GIFT
toddler gives contents of money box to help needy The needs of the unf ortunate family which was the subject of an appeal by the "Morning Post" on Monday, still continue to elicit generous response, and yesterday the following donations were received at the office: —Mrs. A.H.O., 5s; Mrs. A. T., 2s 6d; C.E.M.M., 10s; Mrs. Y., clothes; V.D., 6s 7d. In addition, one businessman has offered to equip the children in boots,' and another has offered to supply clothing. Both donors wish to remain anonymous. A touching and very sineere little donation came from a small toddler of six summers, who arrived at the office bearing the total contents of her money box laboriously saved in three-pences, pennies and half-pence. With it she handed in this childish, but moving little note. "Dear children : I am sending you all of my money out of my moneybox to buy anything you like. I am so sorry you have not got a mother and that your father is out of work." The small mite was full of the earnestness of a good, purpose and insisted, with a conviction entirely free from priggishnes, that the the "poor children" would obtain more enjoyment from the money than she would. Her own suggestion, which indicated the original destination of the money was that they "would be able to buy lots of ice creams and chocolate cakes," and she confessed that she had saved the money with the intention of spending it upon these delights during an approaching holiday. Even the adult intelligenee which has put away childish things, could appreciate that this was a saerifice in the true sense of the often misused word.
