Rec. Aug. 31, 5.0 p.m. Berlin, August 30. "I would like to demjand the impeachment of Marshal Hindenburg (the President), but it would be use"less, because it would bie like sending the devil to his grandmother," said the Red member, Frau Clara Zetkin, in her opening address in the Reichstag. Frau Zetkin was so fieeble that she had to be carried to the Speaker's chair by two women Communists. As she mounted the rostrum the Communists greeted her with shouts of "Red front," clenching their fists in the Communist salute. The 230 Nazi members ignored the demonstration, as Herr Hitler ordered that they must set an example of discipline and give the Chancellor no excuse for enforcing Hindenburg's dissolution decree. Frau Zetkin spoke for 45 minutes, slowly and with difficulty, frequently pausing to wipe the perspiration from her forehead. She denounced the Government as the tool of the capitalists and demanded its overthrow and impeachment for violating th'e Constitution. She hoped to live to open a German Soviet Congress. Frigid Silence The House listened with frigid silence and proceeded to elect as Speaker the Nazi member Herr Herman Goering (39). He was a dashing aviator in the war. He also commanded Richthofen's squadron in 1912, and was also Herr Hitler's right-hand man in the putsch of 1923, when he was wounded and fled abroad. When the result of the election was known the Nazis rose in a body shouting "Awake, Germany! Hail Hitler." As Frau Zetkin, totteringly descended the steps the Communists cried, "Hail, Moscow!" The Reichstag adjourned to allow the Speaker and deputy-Spealcer to interview President Hindenburg. By the rules governing the assembling of the Reichstag the most aged member presides to conduct the election of Speaker. The honour on this occasion fell to the lot of Frau Clara Zetkin, a Communist, known as "Mad Clara," who has lived for some years almost exclusively in Russia. Both the Nationalists and the Nazis declared that they would not allow Frau Zetkin to take the chair. However, she did so. She is described as a woman of remarkable activity and ability. She recently underwent the rejuvenation treatment.
