Christchurch, Wednesday. This evening, waterside workers employed loading the Federal steamer, Cambridge, refused to worlc over- ! time unless they were paid at the old rate. Shortly after four o'clock, the men were told that they would be required to work overtime. At 4.30 they told a representative of the agent for the vessel, tliat they would not work overtime unless paid at the old rate. It was pointed out to them that their own federation had agreed that work should proceed as usual under the old conditions, but under new rates of pay, while the conference was sitting, but the men definitely refused to work after five o'clock.
