DANGEROUS DRUGS
(Press Assn.—
USED TO ALLEVIATE PAIN OF WAR INJURY
-By Telegraph — Copyright)
Auckland, Tuesday. When Norman Kenneth Sligo (32) came before the Court to-day on a charge of knowingly having in his possession a dangerous drug, evidence was given that he had been taking a certain drug ever since the war, when he was severely injured. As a result of a gun back-firing on a battleship part of his abdomen was blown away and he had since undergone 35 operations. He suffered such acute pain that the drug was essential to him. He made no attempt to traffic in the drugs. The Magistrate fined him £10 or one month's imprisomnent, saying that if he could not get the drug from a doctor in the proper way he should make representations to the proper authorities. A young man aged 19 years, whose name was suppressed, who admitted stealing drugs from a firm which employed him and supplying them to Sligo, was convicted and placed on probation.
