ROAD & RAIL COMMUNICATION I FROM P.N. TO FOXTON BLOCKED LARGE AREA INUNDATED

— By Telegraph — Copyright;.

Palmerston N., Tuesday. Flooding on an extensive scale has occurred in the Tiakitahuna, , Rangiotu, and Lockwood districts. Following the overflowing of the Manawatu River for miles along its course it is estimated that 10,000 acres of dairying land are inundated. In the Taonui Basin a large tract is under water. The highway and the railway between Palmerston North and Foxton are completely blocked. Settlers in the low-lying area southof Rangiotu are threatened with an alarming situation. Numbers of famillies, are marooned in their houses. There is four feet of water over the roadway. A further rise in the water will make their rescue by boat imperative. The weather is still threatening.
