GALLANT GAMBLE

THE ECONOMY PROGRAMME Rec. Aug. 30, 7.10 p.m. Berlin, August 30. The Government economy programme has caused a lively rise in prices. The Bourse declares it is the biggest and boldest of schemes, by which the Government, by the wave of a hand, proposes to produce over 2,000,000 marks, and demobilise one-third of the army of unemployed. It appeals to the public which would sooner see a gallant gamble than inaction. The Government believes the turn of the crisis has come, and considers the psychological moment has arrived for an effort to revive confidence, stimulate industry, and combat unemployment.
