THE WEATHER
The Government meteorologist issued the fo.llowing weather report and forecast last nifrht: — General situation: An i'ntense anticyclone is centred east of the South Island, while an extensive depres,sion is situated in the Western Tasman Sea, its centre being located over Tasmania. Forecast: Winds moderate southerlies in the Ncrth Isla'nd, elsewhere northerlies socn becoming general, later freshening. Weather: Mainly fine, but conditions becoming unsettled shortly in the western and southern districts of the South Island, with rain developing and becoming fairly general; mild temperatures. Following are the barometer, maximum and minirnum thermometer, sunshine, and rainfall readings recorded at the Government Observation Station by the Rotorua Tourist Department for the 24 hours encled at 9.30 a.m. yesterday. Barometer 30.218ins. Thermometer (max.) 53.2deg. Thermometer (miYi.) $7.9deg. Thermometer (min on grass) 30.2deg. Rainfall 0.46ins. Bright Sunshine 0.2hrs.
