PUBLIC OPINION

C-Lo tne Edltor).

The "Post" at all times welcomea 'j correspondence froin its readers. It must, however, be clearly understood that we accept no responsibility for the views expressed by our correspoiideuts. LORRY TRAFFIC

Sii'i — i woulu like to call the attention of tne authorities- interested, anu also the Transport Board, to the methods being employed by traders and carriers m bringing in overladen xoriies at midnight into Rotorua and Tauranga. Tiie farmeis, who are applying for an aiieviation of their rates, are being charged heavy rates to keep these roads in repair, whilst these piica cutters and non-ratepayers are carrying goods to the detriment of our railways and citizens who pay iie.giit by the New Zealand railways, anu who have their families in u.is cown to provide for. It was not xong since tiiat the citizens of Rotorua were called upon to furnish £1000 to heip put the Mamaku Road in order. | The Government in a generous j mood spent over £20,000 on the same object, the same with the Tauranga ! roads, anu now these lorries are tearitxg them to pieces to give a profit to a xot of catch pennies and the Northern Company, who pay no rates in this town. Why is this allowed to go on? It is time that the Transport Board took action and directed this trafiic through the railways, where it belongs. — I am, etc. RATEPAYER. Rotorua, August 29.
