BAILIFF BARRED

(Press. Assn.-

DEEP TRENCH DUG ACROSS ROADWAY TO FARM HOUSE

-By Telegr-iph-'-Copvright).

Taupiri, Monday. Rumours of an anticipated spirited opposition to an eviction order issued by the Court on August 9 were '"C sponsible for the presence of two policemen, who accompanied the bailiff when he visited a farm on the Gord-onton-Tauhei Road, near Tuapiri on Saturday, to take pussession of the property. That the rumours were not without foundation was foreibly brought home to the party on arrival at the farm. A 10 ton lorry had been taken out to transport the chattels in the house, but the vehicle could not immediately proceed on to the farm. A trench, fully five feet in depth and extending the full width of the carriage-way, had to be filled in before ingress could be effected through the front gate: The party arrived at the farm at 11 a.m., but it was not until an hour later that they reached the house, to find the front and rear doors and windows strongly barricaded. A further hour was spent in verbal negotiation with the occupant of the house before wiser counsels, hacked by the presence of the law anl the threat to foreibly enter the premises, prevailed. The worlc of the eviction party had only commenced. Furniture had to he packed on to th'e lorry, and cattle, sheep and pnultry removed from tlie farm before the bailiff's duties were concluded.
