ANNUAL SALE
WELL KNOWN JERSEY HERD SOLD TO KEEN BIDDING. The second annual sale of Messrs. W. J. and D. O. Murray's Wellfield" and "Tarawera" Jersey stud was held this week at Thornton on the propsrty of Mr. D. O. Murray by Messrs. Wright, Stephenson and Co., Ltd.,- and Dalgety and Co., Ltd., when 32 yearling bulls and 12 yearling heifers were offered to a large attendance of buyers, all parts of the Bay of Plenty being represented. The cattle came forward in good condition, but some of the bulls, being late calves, were small. The bidding for »choice well grown bulls and heifers was animated, the top price for bulls being 38gns, paid by Mr. J. B. Wardlaw, of Waimana, for "Wellfield Banker." "Wellfield Baronet" was bought by the same purchaser for 25gns. Mr. J. McCallion, of Opotiki, secured "Wellfield Distinction" at 36gns. "Wellfield Caesar," which realis'ed 26g-ns, went to Mr. W. Keir, Otakiri. "Wellfield Blondin," 22igns, went to Mr. E. V. Fulford, Otakiri, "Wellfield Victory," 22gns, to Mr. S. G. Kerr, Edgecumbe, "Wellfield Blue Light," 21gns, to Mr. J. H. Coppell, Taneatua, "Wellfield Ivanhoe," 21gns, to Mr. L. Peck, Otakiri. "Tarawera Gen'eral" was bought by Mr. j. G. Murray, of Opotiki for 20gns. Others realised from 8 to 17gns, and the average price for 30 bulls sold was 15§gns. The top price for yearling heifers was 37guns, paid by Messrs. Black Bros., of Whakatane, for "Wellfield Redwing." Others 12 to 18gns, the average price for the line being 15 igns.
