JOCKEY CLUB
ANNUAL MEETING AND ELECTION OF OFFICERS The annual meeting of the Opotiki Jockey Club was held on Wednesday evening*. The annual report and balance sheet were read and adopted. Ofiicers elected for the ensuing year were: Patron, Mr. K. S. 'Wiliiams, M.P.; president, Mr. A. Young (reelected); vice-presidents, Messrs F. W. Reid, J. J. Moody; committee, Messrs J. T. Tabb, F. J. Short, R. A. Hedley, C. T. Clark, J. T. Clark, W. A. Butler, R. Walker, S. D. Abbott, G. A. Hathaway, F. Appleton, C. Black, E. Reece; hon. auditor, Mr. A. Brae. The chairman t'hanked the committee for its 'excellent work in the past year and said that it had been more like a happy family than a committee. He regretted that they had been unable to carry out their race meeting last year and went on to refer to the heavy taxation imposed on raeing clubs at the present time. He expressed a fear that unless some relief could be obtained some country clubs would be foreed out of existence.
