ROTORUA BOROUGH
DEPARTMENTS TQ CO-OPERATE IN ADVERTISING CAMPAIGN. For some time past the Rotorua Borough Council has been endeavouring to arrange for the co-operation of the Railway and Tourist Departments in an advertising campaign for Rotorua. Last night the amusement and p'uhlieity committee recommended that the offer of the departments to provide £300 in connection with the advertising campaign previously suggest'ed he accepted, making a total advertising fund of £600 in all, and that the campaign be proceeded with subject to the departments agreeing that the whole of the £600 be expended in materials for advertising, i.e., posters and booklets, and that the departments use their usual advertising space in the newspapers for additional advertising, and that the whole of the campaign be conoentrated in New Zealand. The suggestions of the departments were: — (1) Preparation of a full colour poster 40 inches by 25 inches, 5000 copies to he printed, half of these to be distributed overseas through the agency of the Tourist Department, and the other half to be used for a wide-spread display in New Zealand, including the principal railway stations. (2) The publication of a booklet stressing the health aspect of Rotorua.. (3) Well designed advertising in the principal newspapers in the Dominion. In reply to Cr. O. H. Coleman, the Mayor said it was not intended to hand over £300 to the Railway Department to spend as it liked. He said the programme of advertising would be drawn up in consultation with the committee. The committee had also made suggestions to the Tourist and Railway Departments for reduced eharges. It was one of the features kept in view for the health campaign. Councillor Johnson corroborated the Mayor's statement, and declared that if they could get* the Railway Department to agree to their suggestions the council would he "off a win." Councillor Smith thought it would be better to exhibit slides in th'e theatres in preferenes to posters. The recommendations were adpoted. •
