MR. COATES DEPARTING AND MR. STEWART FOR ENGLAND.
-By Telegraph — Copyright)
Wellington, Wednesday. Advice has been received by Hon. G. W. Forbes that Hon. J. G. Coates left Ottawa on Monday evening, and will arrive at Vancouver on Friday and San Francisco on Sunday, conneeting with the Monowai and sailing thence on Wednesday. Hon. Downie Stewart is leaving for New York to-day, where he will probably remain ten days before proceeding to England. Mr. Forbes said Mr. Stewart's visit to New York has nothing to do with the snggestion of the Auckland Chamber of Commerce that Mr. Stewart, whilfc in America, sl\ould 'endeavour to negotiate a tariff treaty with the United States, and added that it is not the Government' s intention to enter into such negotiations. Mr. Stewart wished to consult the New York specialists under whom he received traatment some years ago.
