BUTTER DEMAND
! (Press. Assn.— i
HGPEFUL ANALYSIS OF CURRENT MARKET I CONDITIONS i
-By Telegraph — Copyright).
Rec. Aug. 21, 1.5 a.m. London, August 21. j Although the butter price cannot | be regarded as satisfactory, the dej mand is excellent. The proof of this ! is afforded by statistics, which show J the total imports for May, June and i July exceeded those of the same ; months of 1930 by 7500. Cold store j stocks are now lighter than for the same period of 1930. An interesting feature of the market to-day is the difference in the
price between Australian and New Zealand. For a long time it was only 1/- or 2/- in favour of New Zealand, but lately has increased to 8/-. This is apparently due largely to the cessation of Irish imports since the duties were imposed. Irish butter is largely consumed in Wales and also in England, and in the absence, buyers have taken New Zealand which has been puslied in these districts for some time. The cheese market, after a long period of stagnation is showing- signs of recovery. According- to the 'Grocer' stocks of New Zealand and Canadian cheese in England are sevei'al thousands of tons below those of August, 1931. Stocks in Canada are also lighter than for many years. Therefore, during the next six or eight weeks, the arrival of Canadian and New Zealand cheese is not expected to equal the consumption, and a rise in price may be reasnoably expected.
