(Press. Assn.-

— By Telegraph — Copyright).

Rec. Aug. 22, 1 a.m. Ottawa, August 21. The Australian agreement contains an important meat deelaration by Great Britain.- It states that the present wholesale price of frozen meat has resnlted in a great depression in the Dominions to industries like the stock industry, and if this depression is continued, it is. likely to cause a serious decline in production, ultimately injuring the consumer. The position is so serious that it is essential to raise the wholesale price of frozen meat to a level ensuringsufficient production. Great. Britain will arrange regulations of meat importation, such regulations include chilled beef, mutton, lamb, bacon and hams. Britain's policy in relation to meat production is (1) To secure the development of home production. (2) To give the Dominions an expanding share of the imports into Great Britain. The Commonwealth -Government agrees to deliver frozen mutton and lamb to Great Britain in 1933 to an amount eciuivalent to the total ex}orts from Australia during the year ended June, 1932 in consideration for Britain (1) Regulating the frozen meat imports in accordance with the agreed programme, details of which are not. disclosed, including chilled beef, mutton and lamb. (2) Arranging as soon as possible after receiving the report of tbe pig industry commission now sitting for quantitive regulations of bacon and hara supplied to the Rritish market. (3) Undertaking no restrictions plaeed on importation of any meat during the period named in the agreed programme. During 1933, Britain will consult the Commonwealth regarding the best means of ensuring an improved price situation and ! more orderly marketing.
