STRICTER REGULATIONS AS TO PROPER TYPE NEEDED

Christchurch, Friday. In the Supreme Court before the Chief Justice, Sir Michael Myers, Robert Alfred Hartley was. charged with negligently driving a motor truck and causing the death of a cyclist, Alfred Thomas Sturgeon. A verdict of not guilty was returned. The jury added a rider that the >authorities be approached to enforce more strongly the present regulations regarding the type of bieycle lamp used. Mr. Sturgeon was killed hy being struck head-on by Hartley's truck which. had swung over-to .pass a motor car. It was alleged that Sturgeon's bicycle lamp was either not lighted or was showing an inadequate light owing to smolciness,
