Rec. Aug. 19, 5.0 p.m. Ottawa, August 18. The meat problem has been practically settled as the result of two sessions ending at 7 p.m., between the British Ministers and Messrs Bruce and Coates. There are the clearest indications that Britain has surrendered to the principle of quantitative restr'iction on foreign meat, embracing chilled beef. There will possibly be'some differentation of treatment of chilled beef compared with frozen beef, mutton, lamh, pork and bacon. The actual details of the projected quota scheme have not yet been agreed upon and negotiations will he resumed to-mor-row morning, when the final decision is certain to be reached. The delegates returned to the Chateau for dinner, carrying with them draft agreements on all commodities. Messrs Bruce and Coates admitted that there are still several points of principle outstanding, but both expressed satisfaction at the prospects.
