PREFECTS' DANCE

FAREWELL TO MISS HARDING The prefects of the O.D.H.S. fareweHed Miss W. Harding who has been teaching for some time at the sehool, by holding a danee in the I'armers' Rooms on Wednesday evening. . The dance which was organxsed solely by the prefects (Misses E. Debreceney, A. Upton, V. Moody, and Messrs. A. Stuart, G. Sloan, R. I'orbes and W. Aidney) was a great soccess. ' Prefeet A. Stuart made a very competent M.C. and Miss, B. Ensoll (a member of the staff of the school) supplied the rnusic. - A Monte Carlo dance was won by Miss M. Couch and Mr. B. Anderson. The rooms were gayly decorated in pink, green, and blue streamers, wattle and ferns. During the evening a peanut race between the different forms took place. After supper, Mr. Kibblewhite spoke a few words of farewell to Miss Harding and stressed the good work she had done during her stay in Opotiki. He expressed the general regret of scholars and staff at the news of Miss Harding's transfer from Opotiki to Woodville. Mr. A. Stuart, on behalf of the pupils, stressed their regret at Miss Harding's departure, and Miss A. Upton xnade a srnall presentation on behalf of the scholars. Among those present were: — Mesdames J. G. Clothes Make the Man In a recent court case, there were several Maori defendants and it was noticeable that when calling on their solicitor they were dressed very smartly and in plus fours, but when they appeared in court they were to be seen in very old denims, well patched in both lcnees and seats.. Unusual Gift Recently a lady, who does a good deal of visiting and work amongst the Maoris, was called by an elderly Maori to "come and see what I got for you."
