Auckland, Thursday. Fatal injuries were received by Mr. H. L. Dartnell, of Christchurch, and his wife was very seriously injured when they were struck by a motor* vehicle at the corner of Balmoral and | Mt. Eden Roads shortly ^ after seven ! o'clock this „ evening. Mr. Dartnell sustained severe head injuries and was dead upon. arrjval „ in hospital, and Mrs. Dartnell received head and internal injuries, fracture of the ribs and fracture of the left leg. Her condition is ' very serious. Mr. and Mrs Dartnell, who were both elderly, were in Auckland on a visit to Mr. Dartnell's sister, Mrs J. Renton, of Balmoral Road. Deeeased was a former well-known business man of Springston, Canterbury, and was about -80 years of age. His vvife is over 70 years old.
