NEW ZEALANBERS' PAPERS ON VETERINARY SUBJECTS

Jttec. Aug. 18, 1U p.m. Sydney, August 18. Upward of 1000 members of the Science Congress grouped into 16 sections to-day heard lectures or papers dealing with their particular subjects. Mr, E. T. Dyason, of Melbourne, contrasted the systems of Communism in Russia and Fascism in Italy, and declared what now passed for Communism, was actually a state of capitalism, although the ultimate aim was the communal state or realisation of the rapid industrialisation of Russia. Two papers were read at the veterinary section of the congress, prepared by New Zealanders. Mr. A. Leslie of Lincoln Agricultural College dealt with the twin disease of ewes. Experimental data was presented in the course of his hypotheses, which is that the disease and its origin were the cumulative effects of under nutrition and malnutrition during the latter part .of the gestation period of high producing individuals. Mr. C. S. Hopkirlc dealt with the methods evolved by the New Zealand Agricultural Department for the control of mamiti? in dairy cows,
