AN ANCIENT SINGER
SOPRANO OF EIGHTY HAS A YOICE LIKE A GIRL. WONDERFUL PERFORMANCE. ABERDALE (Wales), July 8. A eoneert singer who took her first lesson in voice production when she was seventy-nine years old, and now, at the age of eighty, possesses the soprano voice of a girl of eighteen, made an appearanee at Cwnldare. She is Mrs. E. Parfitt, of Porthcawl, who as a concert artist is prohably nnique. Tall, erect, with silver hair and rosy cheeks, Mrs. Parfitt looks only half her age. She sang several soprano songs with' ease "and charm. She said that she h'ad sung in choirs all her life, but did not decide to be a soloist until she was seventy. Mr. Dan Price, senior professor of singing at the Royal College of Music,' said: "She astonishes me by the wonderful purity of her voice and sustaining power. I have never in my long experienee come across so rsmarkahle a case. One would think from her voice that she was eighteen, not eighty.
