MELBOURNE, Tuesday Ships are reaehing Melbourne hours late. They have reported high seas off the coast from Cape Otway to Gabo Island. Several small freighters which were due on Sunday will not berth until to-day. The Karepo and Mundala from Adelaide were each twelve hours overdue; when they arrived. Seas sweeping over the Bendigo, also from Adelaide, smashed two portholes and flooded the cabins. Her decks were almost continuously awash. As the result of rain and melting snow ,the rivers have risen. Slip'ping from their horses while wading out to release three oth'er horses marooned by the Yarra flood water s at East Kew, Michael Warren (35) was drowned, and Sydney Parker was rescued in an exhausted state. 4 ; ! Parlcer was saved after clinging to a fence with water up to his chin for an hour.
