-By Telegraph — Copyright).
AUCKLAND, Monday. "I must continue my policy of imposing imprisonment as a deterrent for this class of "offence," said Mr. Justice Smith, at the Supreme Court to-day, when passing sentence on William Orr, a young man who had been found guilty on two charges of unlawful carnal knowledge of a girl under 15 years at Whakatane. Counsel for accused recalled that the jury made a strong recommendation to mercy on accoxint of Orr's ill health. Counsel also said that it was not an extreme case, there being certain extenuating circumstances. His Honour said he would take into consideratiori what had been said on accused's behalf, hut it was not possihle to grant probation. Orr would be sentenced to six months' imprisonment, and his Honour would recommend that it be served at the Waikeria Borstal Institute, where full consideration would be taken of accused's physical disabilities,
