VISITOR FROM COUNTRY FLEECED BY TWO MEN

CHRISTCHURCH, Monday. As a result of a confiderice trick played last week on a visitor to the races from ,the country, John Robert Johnson (32) hairdresser, was sentenced to two months' imprisonment, and Charles Robinson, alias Montagus (23), labourer, to three months' imprisonment, by the Magistrate, Mr. Mosley, on charges of ohtaining £15 by falsely representing that Johnson was McRae, a jockey; that Robinson's name was McLean and he was part owner of Lucess; and that they were investing several hundred pounds on horses which th'e stable was baclcing. The police said comp-lainant had parted with £37 in all. His statement showed what a mug he had been. Bota accused were said to have come from the North Island.
