WHANGAREI, Saturday." Wilfred Thompson, of Victoria Valley, a well-known member of the Mangonui Rugby team, was reassembling an engine at night, and afterwards washed his hands in benzine. He then picked up a lighted candle with the result that the volatiie spirit exploded and bothfhands caught fire. Fortunately, he was able to subdue the flames before they did much harm, but the skin was burned halfway up each arai.
