REFUSED GHAN CELLORSHJP BY PRESIDENT VON HINDENBURG REFUSES TO PARTICIPATE

Rec. Aug. 14, 5.0 p.m. BERLIN, Saturday. Herr Hitler interviewed General von Schliecher and H'err von Papen, and was informed that President Hindenburg insists in the formation of a non-party Government, in which the Nazis could participate, hut that he (Hitler) could not have the Chancellorship. Herr Hitler declared that the election had shown that Germany wanted him as Chancellor, and he also demanded the portfolios of the Interior and Defence. Herr von Papan offered him the vice-Chancellorship, but Herr Hitler refused and insisted on the Chancel- j lorship. The negotiations thus failed.
