LOS ANGELES, Thursday. The Olympic Games were continued to-day, when a further interesting phase of the programme was dealt with. The first heat of the eight-oar racing at Long Beach was a strenuous race, Itaiy winning hy a length and a-half from Britain whose form was a little disappointing. The Italians were the least distressed of the four eights and finished strongly after setting the pace all the way. In the second heat of the eight oar rowing the New Zealanders drew lane 1, which was a favourable position. Canada, however, took the lead. United States came alongside at 400 metres, and the New Zealanders were ' contesting third place with Germany. The Canadians, and the famous University of California crew, were still back on the 1500 metres, New Zealand being third, having forged ahead of the Germans. All the crews strolced ' desperately over the last 100 metres. The Canadians who had been striking 38, and were now extremely tired, gave way to the Americans who came in a neck ahead. The Germans were half a length behind Canada, and the New Zealanders three-quarters of a i length behind the Canadians.
