ENDS IN FATALITY
VICTIM OF MATAMATA ACCIDENT DIES IN KOSPITAL Further information obtained concerning the accident indicates that the party of s^ven comprising Messrs. R. Lloyd, R. Dufty and F. Crossland, together with the deceased and three other Rotorua girls, left Rotorua on Tuesday evening with the intention of attending a dance at Te Aroha. The party was travelling in a half-ton truclc driven by Lloyd, who had with him in the cab Miss N. Gallagher and Miss Salmon. All went well until reaching Matamata where the driver became unfamiliar with the road, and while travelling at about 30 miles an hour he reached the sharp turn in the vicinity of the hospital. Temporarily losing sjght of the direction of the turn he sharply applied the .brakes, at the same time slewing the truck to the 'right, with the result that the left hand front wheel eollapsed and the vehiele capsized pinning the deceased under the cab. Upon extricating Miss Salmon, it was realised that, although no exter* 1 nal injuries were apparent, she had been seriously hurt and she was removed to the hospital where she died some hours later while still under chloroform. The deceased's pai'ents reside in Auckland.
