irish farmers POSITION GOING STEADILY FROM BAD TO WORSE DR. RYAN'S RECALL

— By Telegra ph— Copyright)

LONDON, Wednesday. The Times' Dublin correspondent says: "It is understood that Dr. Ryan's recall from Ottawa is due to the necessity for supervising measures for relieving the farmers, whose condition has gorie from bad to worse, owing to tariffs. They are faced with starlc ruin. Trade is dead, and every day lessens the chance of revival. Everybody recognises the f olly of the struggle, but nobody Iifts a finger to end it." Mr. Adam Blood, speaking at a Great Southern Railway meeting, ascribed the crisis in the Free State railways to the tax on British coal, which alono is suited to the engines. The Government should relieve the situation. Sir Walter Nug-ent, who presided, said, unless this and other adverse conditions were removed the railways must be closed or nationalised. Nationalisation- would be disastrous to everybody.
