FOR SANATORIUM PATIENTS.

Last Friday evening members of the Girls' Club under the auspices of the Rotorua Women's Club -entertained the patients of the Sanatorium with a concert of bright and varied items. To those who so seldom have | an opportunity of an entertainment I of that deseription, it came as a very j pleasant surprise, and the Girls' Club | are to be congratulated upon the en- ! joyable as well as thonghtful perfonnance that they presented. The opening number was an item by an orehestra under the baton of Mr. H. J. F. Heley, and called for further acclamation during the evening. An old favourite, "When Your Hair Has Turned to Silver," was sung by Miss Jean Winslade, who was ably assisted by a chorus of girls. Miss 0. Beamish has a delightful soprano voice, and she delighted her audience with several songs during the programme. Included in the vocal items was a charming trio in character, "Sunbonnet Sue" — the ' name speaks for itself. An item deserving special mention was provided by a squad of girls, who performed some very clever Swedish drill exercises. Miss K. Kingon, who had trained the girls, was well rewarded for her trouble by the splendid performance of the squad. Miss Ethel Sharp'e held her audience with a very dramatic poem, "The! Clown," and this was followed by an old-world touch in a dance by Miss K. Kingon and Miss E. Pilkington. This dainty and charming1 item demand ed repeated encores, which were gracefully respoiided to by the performers. As a conclusion to the evening's programme, a playette was staged by a cast of three, Miss Hitchens, Miss C. Kelly and Miss G. Dillon, who kept their audience in good humour with an excelleht entertainment. A dainty sdpper was served hy members of the Women's Club, and one of the patients, on behalf of the inmates,. expressed their thanks to all who had worked so hard in affordI ing them such a pleasurahle" "evenI ing.
