LEANING TOWER

CONTINUES TO SETTLE DOWN Although' the Leaning Tower of Pisa still continucs to settle down to one side, it is good for another 150 years. This is the view of a commission apponted to examine its condition. The work of reinforcing the foimdations — which has been in progress for the past two and a half years, under the dirsction of a British firm — is proceeding. Owing to the solid nature of the building it is not in danger of eollapsing. There is no suggestion of restoring the tower to the perpmdieular, as it would then lose its artistic and "touristic" value. Should it collapse, it would be re-erected with the same materials, as was done in the case of the Campanile at Venice.
