UNIQUE RECORD

GISBORNE SAVAGE CLUB COLLECTS ALL SUBS. BY JUNE 30. It is not often that Rotorua Isgitimately has cause to envy any other parts of New Zealand, but, judging by a communication received by the Rotorua Orphans Club and dealt with all its committee meeting on Thursday evening, even Rotorua has something to learn from Gisborne. The letier ran: "Dull care and depression are not allowed to enter within the hapu of thu Gisbo. ne Savage Club, which is p'crforming quite >a useful function in the community in the way of relief work and in maintaining the spirit of cheerfulness. The best evidence that members of the club appreciate the privibges afforded them was that given last evening (July 6), when, at the korero held at the City Hall, Ch'ei Rangatira, Savage C. V. Harre, wa:; ablo to announce that every subscription for the current year had been p*aid prior to June 30. The collection of the subscri'ptions of 395 members of the club by that date is an achievement remarkable in these times, and is probably unique in the experienae of fraternity clubs of this nature. Moreover, this is the second year in which the hon. secretary, Savage Thomas Adams, has been able to report the whole club financial by June 30. A suitable recognition of the secivtary's zeal and energy was made by the Chief Rangatira, and echoed by the gathering of Savages.
