— By Telegraph— Copyright).
Rec. July 31, 5.5 p.m. NEW YORK, Satorday. Tlie New York Tiihes Btxeiibs Aires cori'espondent states that -the century old boundary clispute "between Pai'aguay and Bolivia for possession of the Gran Chaco, the vast wildei*ness between the uninhabited parts of the two Republies, has apparently reached a virtual state of war to-day, according to a report received here. It is believed that a formal declaration is a matter only of hours. From the respeetive capitals, there are reports of several minor engagements for the possession of forts, in wliich many were killed and injured. A warlike spirit -is prevailing in both countries. Bolivia demands an outlet to the Atlantic, via the P.araguay river, and insists that further mediation by neutral countries would be futile. Adthough admittedly inferior in military equipment, Paraguay has determined to defend the position. Ancording to reports, Bolivia has 50,000 Well trained, well-equipped men ready for action.
